Woodlands Golf Course Approved to add Three Holes

Woodlands golf course approved to add three holes
By April Charlton/Senior Staff Writer
When the second of three golf courses at The Woodlands development on the Nipomo Mesa is complete, golfers will be able to tee off from more holes than previously planned.
With a unanimous decision Thursday, the San Luis Obispo County Planning Commission approved a request from Woodlands developers to change an approved nine-hole course to 12 holes.
The commissioners approved the request, which required a conditional use permit, partly because the additional holes won't require more water use, said Warren Hoag, county supervising planner.
The 12-hole course will be on the same 56-plus-acre site as originally approved and won't disturb any additional land or remove additional native vegetation.
The course will be developed during the second phase of construction that's already underway at the 957-acre site, where an 18-hole golf course, Monarch Dunes, opened last year.
The Woodlands - the largest mixed-use development project in San Luis Obispo County history - was approved in 2002, after 15 years in the making, and eventually will include 1,320 homes, three golf courses, a business park and retail “village.”
More than 150 homes are already under construction or complete at the site south of Willow Road near Highway 1, and about 85 families have been living in homes there for more than a year.
The Woodlands development receives water from an onsite mutual water company.
