Tip of the Month

Bunker Party:
Want to learn the easiest way to get out of a bunker?  Then try this simple philosophy to get out of the bunker:

1st     If you can putt out of the bunker then utilize your putter and roll the ball out.

2nd     If the lip is no higher than your ankles then chip and run ball the out with an 8 iron

3rd     If the lip is about knee to hip high then pitch and run the ball out with a pitching wedge.

4th     If the lip is higher than your waist then lob it out with your sand-wedge or lob wedge.

So if you will simplify your philosophy by using any of these four steps, above, you will find the bunker to be easier to get out of.  And maybe, it gets so easy, instead of the bunker being a nightmare, you will think your having a bunker party!

Tip of the Month:
 Help your beginner golfers
If you want to help your friends and/or family love golf and play with you, for a lifetime, here's some simple advice:  When they start taking lessons you should take opposite handed golf lessons as well.  So if your currently rt. handed then learn what they are feeling, instantly, and try left handed.  I have been doing this myself over the years, it has helped me help the beginner golfers.

Tip of the Month
Want to know if your club is on "Plane"?
Take your driver and put a white tee (long tee preferable) in the butt end or grip end of the club, as there is a tiny hole there.  Now swing the club back to 3/4 distance where you arms and club form an "L" and see if the tee points at somewhere on the target line.  Now swing thru to the other side same distance thru as back swing (or mirror image) and see if the tee points again somewhere on the target line.  Without a ball practice this over and over till its easy to do.  If the tee pts at the target line you are on plane to the target line.

Tip of the Month:
How to Hit Straight Drives
If you want to hit your driver straighter and more consistent simply choke down on the grip handle.  The drivers were purposely lengthened to help you hit it further.  The problem is this is too long for most golfers.  The longer the club the tougher it is to consistently return the club-face square to the ball.  Just choke down as much as you can (without touching the shaft) and I know you'll hit the ball straighter and more consistent.

Tip of the Month
The Rough:
Frustrated and confused about what to do to successfully to get out of the rough? Try this tip... Widen your stance. If you widen your stance you will lower the bottom of your swing (where the club contacts the ground). Yes you will hit grass first, but due to this lower bottoming out, the bottom of the club will be lower than the equator and this will pop the ball out of the rough higher and farther. So instead of getting frustrated with this shot just widen your stance the next time you encounter "The Rough".

Tip of the Month
Frost Delay Strategy:
Ok, you arrive to play golf for your early morning tee time, and you find out that there is going to be a 2 hour delay due to frost.  No time to get frustrated. Here's what you need to do to give you a chance to play normal... Don't wait around go do something else, eat breakfast, play cards, go home, read the paper/book, etc... find something to do that doesn't waste your energy but keeps your mind off of the delay.  Start your warm up routine by timing it to when the frost delay ends.  With this simple strategy you will have a good chance to play how you normally do.

DECEMBER 2012

Junior Clinic: December 6th at 4:15pm
Adult Clinic: Saturday's, December 1st, 8th & 22nd at 1:00pm.
$20 each, all equipment provided.

Tip of the Month

Putting: MisalignmenPutting alignment is one of the most important fundamentals.  If you are not aimed at the hole or the putting line you are not going to hit it. Try this self assessment: pick a straight putt about 5 feet from the hole and line the letters of the ball to the hole. Now set your club face square to the ball's letters and then look at the hole to see if the putter face feels aligned.  If not you have an alignment problem. The solution is to move your head/eyes around until you feel like the club face is aligned properly.  You can have a great stroke and read greens perfectly but if misaligned its all in vain!  I'm available Monday thru Saturday to help you assess your putting alignment.

Tip of the Month
QUANTUM GRIP was developed by Occupational Therapist, Patrick Pinkart several years after a paralyzing spinal cord injury left him with difficulty holding a golf club securely. QUANTUM GRIP utilizes the very simple, yet very effective technology of "hook and loop" (Velcro) to make golf more accessible to persons with physical challenges and enable them to easily and securely hold a golf club. Golf Professionals say QUANTUM GRIP is also a superior training aide! QUANTUM GRIP is also great for experienced golfers who want to increase the power and "lag" in their swing and NEW golfers who are looking to learn the proper relaxed hand placement.

Golfers with arthritis in their hands and fingers, those with hand or elbow injuries, or any condition that affects their hand strength, find that QUANTUM GRIP magnifies their gripping power many times! Power is enhanced via the connection of hook Velcro material recessed into the golf club grip, and loop Velcro material that is constructed into the golf glove. The club does not slip or twist in the golfer's hands when swinging the club and hitting the golf ball. Very little strength is needed to hold the club securely to be able swing with confidence. No club twisting or slippage ensures the club-face is square upon impact with the ball.

OCTOBER 2012

Tip of the Month
Golfers, gripping the club too tight under pressure? Try this simple drill: Concentrate on maintaining constant medium grip pressure during the entire swing. A traditional way to feel this is to pretend like your holding a bird in your hands without squeezing it but also don't let it go. Constant grip pressure like this should help stabilize your golf swing especially under pressure.
